LG G Flex phone bend and not break

You probably know that the LG G Flex and Samsung Galaxy Round have something in common: their curved displays. The G Flex has a special little trick up its sleeve that sets it apart, however. It can physically flex without breaking.

Lay the G Flex down screen-first on a flat surface and you can actually push on its back hard enough to flatten it out without damaging the phone. Not visibly, anyway.

No, it’s really not bending all that much… but would you want to try bending your iPhone 5S or Galaxy Note 3 like this?

This still isn’t the kind of thing you probably want to do on an ongoing basis. While the self-healing back and arched display on G Flex can clearly tolerate the abuse for the duration of a demo video or two, the other internal components might not be as forgiving.

And although LG’s been working on its flexible battery for a while now, more than a few people are bound to be squeamish about repeatedly bending their smartphone’s most volatile component.

So while the Galaxy Round’s curved display has been widely criticized for being little more a gimmick by many it’s clear that the LG G Flex actually offers some very clear benefits.

Real innovation in smartphones isn’t quite as common as it used to be, so it’s nice to see something from a manufacturer like LG that really is new, different, and — perhaps most importantly — a real improvement.
