Microsoft announces that it is dramatically increasing the number of devices users are able to install apps on. At the moment there is a limit of five devices, enabling customers to install the apps they have bought on multiple devices with the same user account. While you might think that five devices is enough for most people, some developers and customers wanted more. Microsoft listened and has increased the app roaming limit. Massively.

Microsoft is upping your Windows app roaming limits to not 8, 10, or 20 devices, but instead you’ll be able to use up to 81 devices.

That’s insane. Your single Microsoft account can install apps from the Windows Store on up to 81 different devices starting October 9th. 

“We believe this change will be beneficial to the app developers. On one hand, the ability to run on more devices may mean more revenue from the apps that are ad-based. On the other hand, if limiting the service that can be accessed simultaneously on devices is critical for the business model of the app, we provide a set of APIs to build a service-side verification to set that limit,” the company explained.

For free Windows apps that don’t have any revenue streams, this change will have no effect. For apps that have ads, the new policy may end up being beneficial to their developers, as users may access them on more devices.

Nokia : WP8 Amber Update Will Roll Out To All Devices By September End

Nokia has promised that its Lumia Amber update will reach all Windows Phone 8 devices by the end of September.

The Finnish phone maker is rolling out the update for its Lumia 920, Lumia 820, Lumia 720, Lumia 620 and Lumia 520 as well as their variants.

Amber introduces a number of new features to the Lumia range, including new photo-editing tools and improved camera capabilities. The Nokia Smart Camera app also introduces motion sequence shooting on its high-end Lumia 920, 925 and 928 handsets.

The Amber update also has “Glance Screen,” a tool that makes your phone’s inactive state more interesting. When your handset is inactive, it will display a clock and battery information. So, you can more quickly interact with your phone without having to do anything at all. You can turn off Glance, of course, or have it switch off after a set amount of time.

Unfortunately the negative news includes that some of the most desirable features are not coming to all handsets.

In the post Nokia confirms that the ‘double tap to wake’ feature is not supported on Lumia 720, Lumia 625, Lumia 620, Lumia 521, Lumia 520.

Also Nokia confirmed the FM Radio feature will not be coming to the Lumia 620, Lumia 810 and Lumia 928 as they “do not have the FM radio chip.”

German agency warns Microsoft Windows 8 PCs vulnerable to cyber threats

A German government technology agency has warned that new security technology in computers running Microsoft Windows 8 operating system may actually make PCs more vulnerable to cyber threats, including sabotage.The warning comes after weeks of public indignation in Germany over leaks related to U.S. surveillance programmes. The spying scandal has become a headache for Chancellor Angela Merkel ahead of a September 22 election.The problem, according to the BSI, is with the use of a computer chip known as the Trusted Platform Module, or TPM 2.0, which is built into Windows 8 computers. TPM 2.0 is designed to better protect PCs by interacting with a variety of security applications. But the BSI, which provides advice on technology and security to the government as well as the public, said the joint implementation of Windows 8 and TPM 2.0 chips could lead to “a loss of control” over both the operating system and hardware, without specifying exactly how that could occur.”As a result, new risks occur for users, especially for federal and critical infrastructure,” it said.The statement concluded: “The new mechanisms in use can also be used for sabotage by third parties”. These risks need to be addressed. Microsoft declined comment on the BSI statement. The company provided Reuters with a statement saying that PC makers have the option to turn off TPM technology, so that customers can buy PCs with it disabled. TPM was developed by the Trusted Computing Group, a non-profit organization backed by technology firms including IBM, Intel, Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft.

Windows Phone 'Nokia Bandit' Coming Soon

Nokia is said to be planning a big-screen Windows Phone for release later this year. As per The Verge, sources familiar with Nokia’s plans have revealed that the company is currently testing a 6-inch device with the latest version of Windows Phone. The device is Code named ‘Nokia Bandit’ and is said to include a 1080p display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor. If this information is true this device will be the first one to get a 1080p display on a Windows based phone. The source further says that the Bandit will ship with a rear camera that is at least 20-megapixels, and with a slight hump at the rear of the device to accommodate the camera. Keeping the device thin and lightweight is said to be a priority and it will be built with a polycarbonate body. Microsoft is currently improving Windows Phone to support devices like the Bandit, with extra changes for 1080p displays, and an additional column of Live Tiles on the Start screen. The latest Windows Phone update includes rotation lock, a Driving Mode option, and some minor UI changes. If all of this information comes out to be true this device might be a good competitor to the other Phablets available. Pricing will be the most important part, specially in a market like India. Nokia will hold a two-day event in New York on September 26 and 27. According to Windows Phone Central, no details were spilled as to the nature or topic of the event, but one obvious candidate is a Nokia’s tablet. The company has traditionally used New York to unveil major new Lumia devices. In September 2012, Nokia launched the Lumia 920 in New York, and earlier this month, the Lumia 1020 made its debut in the city.
