India’s second largest passenger car manufacturer, Hyundai Motor India Ltd, will launch its fifth small car ‘Grand i10′ next month with an expected price of Rs. 5-7.2 lakh for the petrol variant and Rs. 5.5-7.5 lakh for the diesel variant.
Positioned between its two existing small cars i10 and i20, Grand i10 will compete directly with rival Maruti’s bestseller Swift. Hyundai’s small car line-up also includes Santro and Eon.
Also, Hyundai is likely to build the 1.1-litre diesel engine in its Chennai facility. At present the company imports its diesel engines from South Korea and this move will help them reduce cost as Sriperumbudur plant is capable of producing both petrol and diesel engines. With a 1.1 litre diesel engine, Grand i10 will be Hyundai’s cheapest diesel offering in the country.
This car is built on an absolutely new platform and will be offered with the 1.1 litre diesel engine in India for the first time,” said Rakesh Srivastava, senior vice-president, sales, Hyundai India. “It is very different from the current i10.”

In a recent Press Release Ford India stated that they have recorded the highest-ever monthly sales in its history, in combined domestic wholesales and exports for the month of July. Ford India sold 12,338 domestic wholesales and export units in July. This is a surge of 48 percent year-on-year.
Ford India sold 7,867 wholesale units domestically, a 26 percent increase compared to July 2012. Exports touched an all-time of high of 4,471, it’s highest export number ever with an increase of 114 percent year-on-year from 2,087 units.
“Despite the near-term difficulty in the economy, our customers have put their trust in the urban SUV EcoSport and the Figo. It’s encouraging to see customers visit our showrooms, ready to experience new emerging segments that are driving growth,” said Vinay Piparsania, Executive Director, Marketing, Sales and Service.
Also the all-new Ford EcoSport received 30,000 bookings in the first 17 days after its launch, creating high dealer traffic and sales momentum, in contrast to the overall macroeconomic challenges facing the subcontinent.
In July, Ford India commenced shipments of the EcoSport to South Africa, Mexico and Aruba. The company inaugurated a dedicated car parking yard at the Chennai port to handle the increased export vehicle volume more efficiently.
“With Chennai strongly positioned as a regional export hub for Ford, we are excited to register the highest-ever exports too and are hopeful that the Chennai-built vehicles will satisfy customers in international markets.” he concluded.
Established in 1995, Ford India manufactures and distributes automobiles and engines made at its modern integrated manufacturing facilities at Maraimalai Nagar, near Chennai. The company’s models include the Figo, Fiesta, Ford Classic, Endeavour, and the most recently launched Ford EcoSport for Indian market.
