Revamped Google Maps For Android Hits Google Play

Back in May 2013 at its I/O developers conference, when Google previewed their updated Android version of Google Maps for desktop and mobile, it was expected that Google will soon start to roll out the new maps UI. As spotted by Android Police, a major update for the app has appeared in the Google Play store, sporting an overhauled interface and new discovery features. The update doesn’t seem to be appearing on devices yet, but Google promises it “will be gradually rolling out to Android 4.0.3+ users over the next few weeks.” At its event Google said this new version is bringing a more personalized experience, while the change-log reveals new navigation data with “live traffic updates, incident reports and dynamic rerouting.” Ratings, reviews and other info have also been pushed to the front in an effort to help users find out more about local places, and on tablets an “Experience” feature should bring enhanced indoor walkthroughs. The update also includes an Foursquare-like Explore function designed to help users browse and discover local restaurants, bars, shops and hotels.
